Fan Coils
Fan coils are among the most important cooling and heating equipment, capable of efficiently providing cooling and heating for a space through the flow of water inside the coil pipes. Fan coils come in various types, including ducted fan coils, ceiling fan coils, and floor-standing fan coils, based on their structure and usage. In a fan coil system, there is one pipe for the inlet of water and another for the outlet. The heating or cooling function of the fan coil is determined by the device it is connected to. For instance, if the fan coil is connected to a chiller, the water circulating through it is cold and used for cooling. Conversely, if the fan coil is connected to a hot water boiler, the water is hot and used for heating. Ducted fan coils have higher static pressure compared to other types, allowing the air to be distributed through channels to multiple rooms.
The temperature adjustment in a fan coil is controlled by a thermostat integrated within the unit. The thermostat regulates the temperature of the air exiting the fan coil, functioning as a closed-loop controller. One of its key roles is to minimize the discrepancy between the desired temperature and the actual ambient temperature. The thermostat commands the change in the water flow into the fan coil and is available in various types, such as mechanical or analog and digital designs.
